Where Does Your Loyalty Belong?

I am finally being to feel better.  I have had the same sinus infection for over a year. It has caused major health issues this year for me.  This year it has caused a major health crisis.  A surgery.  Months of required resting. Just recently I have been cleared to begin to get my body back in shape.  I am taking baby steps.

I have had constant sinus issues since the 1960’s.  Until Covid19 hit. I never had trouble getting the help or antibiotics that I needed.  COVID19 changed a lot of people including some medical professionals.  A small number of people became irrational in respects to healthcare. Sometimes medical science was just thrown out the window. Conspiracy theories are currently the rage in some circles.

If you find yourself in the situation where you can’t get the same level of care from your current health care provider that you got before COVID19 hit, I urge you if at all possible to find a newer and younger healthcare provider.

Now that my sinus infection is responding to the new antibiotic, here are a few things that I have noticed.  My blood sugar levels are generally lower. They were pretty good in recent months, but are even lower which is good. I am in less pain.  Remember infections cause inflammation which results in pain and higher blood sugar levels. I have more energy.  Inflammation can make me tired.  My creative energy is back.  Yes, inflammation can mess with my creative mojo.  I am getting things done.  Last week I finished 1 spinning project and 2 charity beanies.  I am also finding it a little easier to get things done around the house.

Now to the question at the top of the blog.  Just where does your loyalty belong.  First and foremost it belongs to you and your family.  If your provider is continuing to provide a good level of care, by all means stay with them.  If, however you find your level of care is getting a little bit wonky, just remember that you are buying a service from them.  You are under no obligation to continue to purchase care from them if they don’t meet your expectations.  By staying you are telling them that everything is perfectly ok. This can put your health in jeopardy.  This in turn puts stress on your loved ones.

Please take care of yourself and your family.  TTFN..

One Week Out

I am 1 week out from surgery last Friday and am being to feel better.  I am taking less Tylenol. I am sleeping better.  My daily numbers are down.  Apparently pain and the stress that the pain causes make all numbers go up.  I feel like my old self joking around with my husband.  I am getting faster with my zingers.

So as much as the first week after surgery was difficult for me, in the end run it was very good to get the repair work done.  Yes, I do for the most part consider surgery repair work.  I still have 1 week of resting to do.  And my 1st post op next week.  I am hoping that things are healing to plan.

Today I managed to finish plying the last third of my Tour de Fleece yarn.  I even managed to work out chain plying on my Hanson e-spinner, I just wish my arms were longer.  I am almost finished with the brim on the hat that I started yesterday. This one will be a planed scrappy hat.

At this time blogger is having trouble uploading pictures. I will post the hat to instagram.

Shopping Smaller

Today we did more shopping for clothing to replace the clothing that is literally getting to big. It was the first week since September 8th that I have not lost 2 or more pounds.  That being said, the inches are coming off in droves.  Between my lifestyle changes and the physical therapy for my knee I am developing muscle mass.  I know muscle mass weighs more than fat. Muscle mass is also more compact which makes me look leaner. Muscle mass burns more calories. Win- win- win for me. Which also makes the clothing look and feel larger

Yes, I know it has only been 4 weeks since I last went shopping.  I have shrunk out of those clothes already.  Hopefully I will hit a body size that I have clothing in my closet for in the near future.

I have also acquired some non caloric treats for when I hit certain milestones.  Getting smaller clothing is not a personal milestone for me.  Yes, I like shopping. It is just not as fun when I personally know that they will fit only a few weeks at best.  I really enjoy finding that classic piece of clothing that is well made , that I will be able to wear for years.  I have got to lose the weight equivalent of a few more toddlers for that to happen.

I will talk about pounds lost. I will talk about sizes down.  However it is not polite to ask my current weight or goal weight. That is between me and the man upstairs.

Also the clothing will not go to waste.  They will be going to Goodwill. Someone should get a Ganga of in season clothing at a great price.

I am feeling better

I am feeling better. I woke up at 3 am very hungry. I had 1/2 peanut butter and jelly sandwich with water. Picked up a little. I have 3 loads of laundry going while it is still a relatively cool 80f outside. 1 hand wash, 1 in the washing machine, 1 in the dryer.  Now it is time for a nap. By the way I had all my laundry out of the dryer  or hanging on the Clothesline by 1030 am. Well before it it hit a 100f and something today.

I am also going to use a different modular shell pattern for my new shawl.  I will start the search this weekend.  I was only 6 rows in so there won’t be much to frog.  So I started a much needed new pair of Maxi Fingerless Gloves in some wonderfully squishy and colorful yarn from Merino_Y_Vino on Etsy.  The turn around time for delivery was excellent too.

My Thursday afternoon knitting buddy and I were working on a new skill.  She wanted to learn how to use the squirrel cage to wind yarn.  All was going well,  she was enjoying herself and relaxing until we came upon a 435 yard skein of sock yarn.

Let me preface this by saying that yarn industry standards allow up to 5 knots per skein of yarn to prevent a mess like below.  Well this Indy dyer decided not to have any knots in her yarn.  So after the first break we restrung the ball winder and started again.  All went well for a while.  Then we started to get tangles that I was able to work through.  Then we got the knots. Not just any little knots but big ones, 4 to be exact.  So I took the reminder of the yarn off the squirrel cage and started to work out the big knots.  By the time I had to drive her home we were working with 3 separate ends.  This means that there is still a missing end in this yarn throw up.  She was enjoying herself watching me tango with this mess. Before you ask they were scissor cuts, not from moths.

Pardon my messy work station as I seem to have many projects going at once, as usual.  I am currently working actively in tandem on 1 charity hat, 2 operation gratitude scarfs located in different parts of the house, 1 shawl on my couch and 1 pair of Maxi Fingerless Gloves, 1 project on the spinning wheel, and several projects on drop spindles. I also have 2 patterns that need typing and photos.  I do have other UFO’s that are in holding patterns. Also a lot of projects to be started and finished.

Baby Steps

I am definitely feeling better today. Not yet 100%.  I only took one nap.  Managed to get 2 loads of laundry finished.  I attacked some paper work.  My recycling bin was very happy.  I even managed to knit over  1 inch on the baby blanket using size 4 knitting needles.  I am almost ready for the next color change.

I still get very tired at times and need to rest more than I want.  But at least I am getting things done.

Pretty Good

Today was pretty good.  I spent some time working on the new pattern.  Finished one scarf, pictures to come later.  Fix someone’s blanket and taught the difference between leading and lagging legs. If you are a knitter and don’t know what this is we need to talk.

Came home and made dinner.  Turkey burgers, yummy.  My hands were too tired to do much knitting tonight, but there is always tomorrow.

So I will call it a day.

Saturday

I have had my most productive day in a while.  I even started 2 loads of laundry and put things away during the 8 minutes that my breakfast was cooking.  Not one spot got cleaned, instead a whole lot of things got got trashed or moved to where they were supposed to be.

I was going to take a walk when I got frustrated by my new design.  I am not sure how, but it is easier to walk, talk and knit this pattern than it is sitting down at a table with pen snd paper, writing the pattern as I go.  There was just one little glitch.  There was a coyote wandering around.  I make it a point not to venture far when wild animals are roaming the streets.  So I did the sensible thing and watered the new cactus we planted last weekend.

When I came back inside, I was a little more relaxed.  I figured out it was not the written pattern that was the problem rather I did not count right when casting on yesterday. So I tinked it. Cast on again and everything is ok.

I picked up some wonderful salmon for dinner. It came out perfect.  Nice and buttery.  No, I did not use butter when I baked the salmon.  I use the juice of one lemon, salt, white pepper and dill.  I let it marinate a few hours. Add a bit of water before cooking.  Bake at 350f for about 35 minutes.  I buy enough to cook once and eat for 2 nights.

Charity knitting happened after dinner.  The scarf that I am working on will take at least 7 skeins of yarn.  It is called the Stash Dive Scarf by Summer Lee Designs.and is available on Raverly.  This is number 4 with this pattern.

Feeling Better

As I have for the past 2 days I ate breakfast and went back to sleep.  The difference was that today I actually felt better when I got up from my nap.  I did 1 load of hand wash, 1 load through the washing machine and folded one load.  All that took 2 session with an hour rest in between.  I tried really hard not to over do it and get everything done.  The maybe good news is that my to do list is still long.

I finished the hat I started at the doctors office on Monday morning.  I am calling the hat Boredom , because the doctor was running late, did not have all the right equipment ( next time I am bringing my own blood pressure machine just in case they only have a very small cuff and not for anyone larger than a petite person) I was supposed to see the doctor but got they PA instead.  They were very slow and disorganized.  So I started messing around with the hat I was making.  John thinks it looks like an ice cream cone.  Let me know  if you want me to write the pattern up.

As you can tell besides binge watching Downton Abbey, I also got some knitting done.  I almond finished another scarf and cast on another hat because I did not want to let the stitch markers get lonely.

Zenning My Closet

Today I tackled part of my closet and put a new and bigger shoe rack in.  The sad news is all my shoes did not fit. So tomorrow I will do another round of zenning to see if I can make room for another shoe rack.  In the meantime I have filled another box for Goodwill.

My drop spindles have found a new home along side or rather above the computer  I really think I need to order some wood conditioner for them too, some are in need of a good polishing

I am feeling a little better each day.  I have tweaked my diet again.  I think it is working, although I should really give it a solid month to know for sure.

Feeling Better

I am finally feeling better, but will take tomorrow slow.  The cold has left me stiff with that clogged up feeling.  I am hoping a few minutes of late night yoga will help get things loosen up and able to sleep.

I was sick for 3 full days so I expect to be behind for at least 6 days.  As my dad use to say “Don’t worry everything will get done when it was meant to get done and not on your schedule.” I think I will follow his  advice this week.

Please stay safe and try to have a fantastic day.

Feeling Better

After sleeping most of the day, I am happy to report that I am feeling better.  I will still try to keep things on the light side though. So this afternoon I designed 4 pairs of earrings, 1 of which I am keeping.  I plied 3 skeins of art yarn.  To top the night off I started knitting a new hat.  I expected that my creative energy will be all over the place for at least a few days.  I really can’t wait to see what happens.

Feeling Better

I think I have finally kick the flu and the secondary.  I am still going to take it slow.  At least the house did not take too bad of a hit. I have got my knitting mojo back, so maybe I can get some projects off the needles this week and get 2 patterns out the door.  Well it's time to go back to knitting.

60 Hats

My informal goal was to knit 60 hats in April, I normally try for 30 hats in 30 days. That would be an average of 2 hand knit hats a day.  Today is April 8th and I only have 13 hats that I term are ready to tag and bag.  A hat is finished, except for washing instructions and rows counted for the 1 million row challenge on Raverly.

I am doing this for two reasons this year. The first is that I just don't see the improvement in the local economy as the politicians are touting.  There is still an escalation in the demand for services like our local food and diaper banks.  The second reason is, because of the first reason more groups are asking for hats and other winter items.  I normally only knit for 2  groups. I can only knit so much.  I average between 11 and 13 dozen hand knit hats per winter.  Yes I start knitting them in the spring.  I am wondering if I should try to knit more hats to help more kids or hope that some else takes up some of the slack. Yes I know that knitting between 143 and 156 hats, is a lot of hats, but I don't think it even makes a dent in the need.  I just have this need to make the world a better place for the kids. At the same time I have things I want to knit for myself too.  I wonder if I will ever find a balance in life?

On the health front, I am starting to feel better.  Somewhere around 5 pm, the sore throat just seemed to hurt less.  Dinner went down very easy too.  I still think I will give it a day or 2 before I head back to the gym though. I also think that I will call it a night.
