We’re Back

We took a small break from the everyday of life.  I took a spinning class on the Navajo Spindle and wandered around the Flagstaff Wool and fiber festival.  We then went to Page to explore.  If you have not gone it has some must sees.  More later.  Also a bit of shopping in Phoenix at my favorite store.

I came back with a cold because a twenty something turned around and sneezed in my face.  Yes we were outside with no masks on.  However there is no way to avoid the fall out when someone is just that rude.  Please remember for the health and safety of your community to sneeze into your arm, elbow, tissue or shirt or if you have a really good friend the back of their shirt will work too.

In this case offering to wash said shirt is just a very humble suggestion.  It is never ok to sneeze into someone’s face.

We have already unpacked and the laundry is sorted.  The beds changed.  Laundry will start tomorrow.  I will be going in the speed of snail for a few days.  I can already feel the achy feeling.

I Hate Colds

I woke up early with my first cold of the season.  So after 2  24 ounces tumblers of ice water, 1/2 mug of ice tea and oatmeal I went back to bed and slept almost to noon.  John made me chicken soup with a pumpkin bagel for lunch.  Then it was couch potato time.

Another mug and a half of ice tea was consumed while binge watching Downton Abbey.  A little knitting was accomplished.  As of this evening no projects have been completed.   No spinning or Cubii2 we’re done either.  I figure exercise is not good when I am sick

My plans for this week are to lay low.  Only if I feel better will things get done.  My to do list from today will wait.  Of course things will get added.

Sharing is Caring or Is It?

We have always been told sharing is caring. Share your cookies with a friend. Popsicle's used to be made to break in half so that you could share with a friend. We give to charity to share with those in need. We break bread together as a sign of friendship. These and countless other ways are great ways to share.

Now here is where I get on my bandwagon. There are times when sharing is not caring. Sharing tubes of toothpaste, not cool, everyone should have their own tube of toothpaste. The plus side of this is colds will not spread as fast through the house. When you send your child to school sick or conversely go to work sick and share the illness, not cool. When you hug someone who is medically fragile, just because it makes you feel better and then tell the caretaker or person that you are sick, really not cool. What part of medically fragile is so hard to understand? When you go out shopping when you are sick, really!!! The person making close to minimum wage can not afford to get sick, they might not even be able to afford a doctor's office visit.

Lets face it we are living in an age where superbugs are a reality. The miracle drugs of my parents generations are losing their effectiveness do to overuse and bugs being able to evolve faster than scientists can come up with new versions of old drugs. So lets go very old school on this. When you are sick, stay home until you feel better. When your child is sick, keep them  home from school, day programs and afterschool activities. If you need to go shopping, Then go online, they delivery everything from groceries to ready made meals. Heck, you can even do your holiday shopping and they will even wrap and deliver your presents for you.  So let's care for each other by not sharing colds.

If you are wondering why this post now, Eric has been erypy for the last 4 hours. Eric has been exposed to any of those ways of sharing colds this week. I don't have the time to deal with this this week, I have too much on my plate. Most of all I don't want to stay up until the wee hours of the morning, it is not good for my hands recovery form surgery. I can expect a set back tomorrow.

So my request is PLEASE Don't Share Your Colds.

When Sharing Is Not Good

Eric has shared his cold. It's not my favorite thing to be sick. At least I have been able to do limited knitting and crochet projects. I am on a cup cozy binge right now. I have 7 finished with 4 waiting to be seamed. I have also sketched two other versions of cup cozies too. I plan on making 24 of each design by the  November 10 fundraiser.

I have also started to piece together the shabby chic quilt. Hopefully it will be finished soon so that I can make a few more sewing projects. They have the added bonus of not hurting my hands and being faster to make.

The more I use my hand the better it seems to be within limits. My ring finger is still not up to par, but I am working on that every day. I have not tried to fold laundry yet, but hanging up wet clothes for the clothes line is getting better. Each day is a little better.

I Got the *+%#*% Cold

The cold the guys have been sharing caught up with me today. All I can say is that is a bad one.  It totally zapped me today.  Almost nothing got done.  I  hoping for a shorter course than the guys had. I would love to feel better by tomorrow.

Since I was too tired to warp the loom, spin or follow a pattern, So I am back to knitting hats today.  For me they are quick mindless knitting.

Ups and Downs

There are 2 different colds going around Eric's day program. He has gotten the second one so he is home again for a least part of the week this week. This has left me a bit on the tired side. What a week for equipment failure. If I am grumpy and complain that my hands are sore it is because I am doing some manual percussion. This to shall pass with the arrival of the replacement later in the week.

I am also beginning to think that the klutz gene gets more active when I am tired. All I am going to say on the subject is that I swear that the fireplace had it in for me today and jumped out to attack me and won. The shirt I was wearing will be remade into a rag rug. I think I have enough rags to make a few of them now.

I was also gifted with some eyelash yarn today. I will take 1 strand of eyelash yarn and one of wool or cotton to make some cute kids scarfs. These go fast because I cast on 13 stitches on US sized 17 needles and knit until I am nearly out of yarn then bind off. About 90 minutes per scarf if Eric is not being too demanding. I will add a few pictures later. These will be going to the Flowing Wells School District too.

Well it is time to get ready for dinner. So enjoy your families this week.

Colds

It seems that since John retired last year my body has decided that it is really OK to get every cold that comes my way. Not only that, my body is giving the colds time to linger. If I sleep through driving time John graciously picks up my slack. If this is part of retirement, this part is for the birds. I wonder if it has something to do with getting more sleep and eating better? Perhaps actually having time to get sick. I have had at least a dozen colds since John retired.

Yes I have the latest cold that is going around, it is hang around my head and neck. It has zapped me of all my energy. Not that I have time for it right now. I should be working on making project bags, making earrings, knitting, spinning and weaving.

Well I think I will try to make some project bags today. It is time to go get crafty.

The Weekend

We had a lay low weekend. We did a little house work. Eric and I are trying to kick the last of the latest cold, I think Eric is having an easier time of it.

I might have over done it yesterday when I mopped Eric's room old school after Scooba's battrie died yesterday. So except for laundry I did not get any housework done today.

I did get a lot of spinning done this weekend. So a lot less knitting got done. I am getting tired so this is the end of this post.

Sort of a Slow Week

After our whirl wind weekend things took a little turn that I was was only half expecting. I managed to acquire Eric's cold and get over it in time for the first dental appointment of the week.  That one went fairly smoothly. Wednesday I had more dental surgery, which was not as bad as last time. It still knocked me for a loop.

I was still fairly out of it when we got snow at the house on Wednesday. I really enjoyed looking at our snow. I know those of you in snow country will be shaking your heads at this silly desert southwest girl. I my defence we have not gotten 1 inch of snow at the house since our newly minted lawyer was in elementary school. Yes, it has been a couple of years. When I have time I will down load my camera and i-pod and post some pictures including that of my little snowman.

I would like to thank Nancy G. for picking me up so I could go to the guild meeting. I was not quite up to driving yesterday. I would also like to thank Lisa and John for keeping things running smoothly on the Eric front. I was not up to dealing with anything on the Eric front for most of the week. John also did a great job running the house and getting meals on the table.

Needless to say not much work got done around the house this week. I am planning short catch up bursts through out the weekend and into next week. Speaking of cleaning I hear the washer calling my name so it is time to get back to work. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your families.

Very Busy

I have been very busy this week trying to get over the cold Eric shared with me,cleaning and running errands. On the cleaning front I now have polished wood on not one but two desk tops. I have organized some more of my yarn and was able to combine two boxes of yarn for charity knitting into to one box. This leaves me more room to bring in more of my stash yarn from the garage. I am also wondering if I will be able to knit 52 items for charity this year? I know one object a week does sound very ambitious.

I have finished more charity knitting and am trying to get more of my UFOs finished. Yes I will even weave in ends this week as my finishing basket is very full. My spinning is coming along nicely. But I do have one question. Is there a very good book about spinning I have the basics down pretty well but want some technical knowledge.

With any luck Eric is now asleep and I can get some more sleep too.

Can't get over this Cold.

I have been sick this week. Fighting the cold I pick up last week end. But I thought I would share the view my dad pick out. This was the first time since I had been there since December 2008. I am so glad it was a sunny and warm day.

I have been trying to do some knitting and have finished one sock and cast on the second sock, the socks are for me. I cast on a scarf for a friend and found 39 skeins of yarn to start a queen size blanket for Teri. By the way a queen size blanket is 60 x 80 inches plus the boader. So the 39 skeins will not go far. I guess I will just have to buy a few skeins to finish the project.
Eric is doing ok for it being the middle of Janauary, he only had 3 bad nights this week. So we are doing ok.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your families.
