The Apple Pencil Pro

When I got my new iPad after I wore out my last one, I had to upgrade to the Apple Pencil Pro. Generally, I have been very happy with the pencil pro. Except for last night. My Apple Pencil Pro stopped working entirely. So I googled what could be wrong. I went through pages of incorrect information. I was in my settings for over an hour trying to fix it with my settings.. Even as good as I am with my iPad, I could not figure out the instructions. One step instructions even said the pencil was not compatible with my new iPad, which I thought, gee, this is really odd, because it’s been working up until this point.

After about an hour, I stumbled upon a random page that it very simple. Unlike the previous Apple pencils, the Apple pencil pro has a screw on cap covering the point that you write with. Well, apparently even if you screw the cap on correctly, the cap can come loose. When the cap loosens by itself,  the pencil stops working. Now here’s the tricky part: you can’t screw the cap on too tightly or you’ll break the pencil. And you can’t have the cap on where it’s not tight enough or the pencil doesn’t work. So I have two pictures of the pencils below: one with the cap in the position where it wasn’t working. And one is how it should look. Now you all know I’m a fiber artist and I am not going to explain this in technical terms, but let’s just say a 16th of an inch here makes a huge difference. In whether your pencil will work or not. I hope this blog gets a lot of action because I’d like this blog post to be up near the top so people have a simple explanation on how to get their pencil working again. This way you won’t lose an hour of your life trying to figure out what you did wrong and why your pencils not working. Or the other thought, do I need to go to the Apple Store to have my new pencil fixed, the answer to that one is no. This gives you more time to do what you need to do or to play with your fiber or your other art medium.

My personal wish is for the Apple Corporation redesign the pencil tip so it does not unscrew so easily. Perhaps giving the product to a mechanical engineer might yield a better design in which the pencil tip would be a little more stable and resilient.

Please be aware that the Apple Pencil Pro is a registered trademark of the Apple Corporation. My husband bought my Apple Pencil Pro and Apple M4 iPad Air for me. This is my personal research into how to fix the Apple Pencil Pro without going through pages and pages of nonsense. By nonsense, I mean going into the settings, uninstalling and reinstalling the pencil. Going into the settings and to find and flip switches. I am receiving no compensation from the Apple company for this blog post. The content and opinions are entirely my own.
