Weaving Thread

Just for the heck of it, I spun some linen thread. On an uninformed whim I decided to weave it into the one of a kind scarf that I am weaving for myself.  It has taken over a week to weave that little portion at my current energy and Sjogren’s flare up level. What was I thinking?

Well I started weaving the linen thread before the flare up started.  Also it looks very nice. It is the portion between the blue and burnt orange.  Yes, the very colorful section. However, you have to look at the sock yarn that is woven in on both sides. The sock yarn looks huge by comparison.  Yes the sock yarn looks really big.

Did I mention that when weaving with thread that I had to be very careful. That there were a lot of short rows too. That meant that the up and down heddle frequently changed sides and that is really fun to keep track of  too.

The good news is that I can see the end of the warp.  I also swear that the next scarf will be woven on a 5 dent heddle. I really need a weaving project that will not take a few months for a scarf. Did I mention that it will use up some hand spun yarn too? This scarf does not have a lot of hand spun yarn. I am really looking forward to taking this off the loom.

Knitting Scarfs

Today was a very uneventful day. I decided to skip knitting blankets today so I could finish a scarf and start the next scarf. I have to say that the scarf had more ends to weave in than a 36 inch square blanket.  Since the scarf was knit with one strand of sock yarn and one strand of worsted weight yarn knit on U.S. 10.5 knitting needles in the round, the fabric is very heavy.  The scarf is much to heavy for Tucson use. So it is going up to a school on the Navajo Reservation.  It will go up with other hand knit items from other Old Pueblo Knitters Guild members. I think I can get 3 or 4, 60 inch scarfs from this batch of yarn. I am very happy that they use up a lot of yarn.  I am using mostly left over yarn and yarn from projects I decided not to knit.

I will show the picture and give the pattern name out tomorrow. I finished the scarf after dinner and there was not enough natural light for a good picture. Since the designer wanted at least one scarf from the pattern go to a good cause, I think that this will fit the bill.

Feeling Under Siege

After being awake since Sunday morning, Eric is finally asleep. This has been a rough cold on all of us. My first hope now is that he does not get a secondary infection from this cold. I also hope that John and I did not catch this cold. As usual it takes Eric about 1 day to recover for every day that he has been sick. So I think that I will keep him home for the rest of the week. I have help for the next two days so that I can play catch up.

Believe it or not laundry is one of those things. Eric managed to hit all of my PJ's So my clothes are on the list to wash. Yes I managed to wash Eric's clothes, towels and sheets so far this week, these clothes are less fussy then my clothes as they can be left in the dryer once they are finished. Almost all of John's and mine need to be hung wet to dry.

On the knitting front I went a little wacky and started knitting a scarf for the fundraiser with a combination of art yarn and sock yarn. Since both yarns have been discontinued it will be a one of a kind scarf. I will show pictures when it is finished. Now I just have to motivate myself that it is really time to weave in the ends of the hat and scarf that I managed to finish even with Eric sick.

Fab Break

We had a fabilous winter break with Teri and she has arrived safetly back at school. I am trying to work off the 3 pounds I put on and am half way there. Did I mention that we went to all her favorite places and ate out a lot. we also stopped by all her favorite desert spots, some like Frost more than once in a week.

Just waiting for my phone to charge so I can finish packing. I am soloing out to see my family for 2 days I hope to have fun with everyone. I have not seen them for 1 year. It will be nice to leave work behind for 2 days.

I have packed 2 skeins of sock yarn so hopefully I will have I pair done by Monday afternoon.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your families.
