A Day of Color

After working on a black and white scarf for a few weeks I really need some color in my life right now.  So for television knitting I am doing a Stash Dive Scarf by Summer Lee Designs, the pattern is on Ravelry.  I am really diving deep for this on with all the bright and pastel colors I can find.  I am also using a bunch of small skeins really bits and pieces. It will be going to a teenager in Northern Arizona next winter.

I am also doing a bit of weaving.  Today I started a shades of Blue Mudd Rug with yarn left over from a cowl that I knit for myself.

The Monet inspired miniature tapestry is coming along very slowly. I worked on it for 2 hours today and only got 3 row’s finished.  I have some very over plyed yarn that I am wrapping around each warp thread by hand.  I am picking up the warp threads individually for each weaving stitch.  I still have to finish the green grass. Then the yellow and purple flowers will be added on top.  The sky and clouds will follow.  Then and only then will I add the embellishments of bottoms, beads, and embroidery. I will sew the edges before I take it off the loom.  Then I will have to figure out how to mount it so I do not lose the depths that I have created.  I have not taken a class on this project. This is all from my creative side.  I like that I am finally relaxed enough to let the creativity flow.

I some how find that the tapestry is easier to weave from let to right. The yarn just seems to flow into place. I really have to think about my weaving when going from right to left. Can anyone explain this to me? Maybe if I would have taken a class I would know the answer  then again maybe this piece would not be a piece in progress.  I am sad that I can’t show the finished piece to my friend Kathy. I hope she likes what see sees from heaven.

Wanna Bee's

This is an open letter to all Printshop Owners and People who want to second guess my art.

Dear Print Shop Professional,

Your staff screwed up beyond belief today. I won't be coming back. Thank goodness it was a very limited run.  Not only did your staff MUCK with the color of my new knitting pattern turning a medium blue into a dark royal blue after, yes I said after my color approval.  The reason is because they thought it looked better. if your employee wants to be an artist fine, yes really.  That does not give them the right to MUCK up my artwork.  The blue almost black your employee turned the picture made the picture worthless to the knitters who will be using the new pattern. Not only that but you charged 80 cents more per copy than last year. $1.00 per copy this year verses 20 cents a copy last year.  Inflation is just not running that high around here.

Depending on the size and scope of the project it can take me any where from 20 to 80 hours or more from design,to knitting the sample,to getting the finished pattern out the door.  This is why I am so mad. If they wanted to get into the act of this pattern design, they should have showed up in early January.

Now I will take the high road and not mention your print shop by name.  I have no idea why you hired this person in the first place and frankly I really don't care.  What I do care about is getting my project done right, yes my way.  Also be aware that not everyone has an eye for color. There is a world of difference between a verigated medium blue and a royal or black blue. So if you or your employee does not have an eye for color, just don't mess with my color.  Don't presume that I don't my colors and won't notice.

An Almost Perfect Day

I had a pretty good day today. Lots of knitting and spinning. I had a small batt from the High Weald Fibre Factory  in the UK that I spun on the wheel.I really liked the fiber and how well it just seemed to know what it was suppose to do. It came out a little over plied which was entirely my fault. I am hoping that with a little rest and boiling of the yarn it will relax a little. I am still not as good on the wheel as the hand spindle but with everything it will take practice.

I did spin my first Alpaca today from Beesybee Fibers. I did this on a spindle and it was just a dream to spin with. I must make a note to buy more alpaca fiber. I and in the process of deciding weather to ply this or not but it will wait for tomorrow. When I am a little less tired.

At Guild today we had yet another color class. From this class and the general reaction is that some people have an innate talent for blending colors and some people can take the classes and watch the DVDs ad nausium and still not get the concept. I guess it is all part of the creative process. I am also glad that color blending and texture blending are something that I do very well at.

We also got some rain today and in true Tucson fashion it was raining in the backyard a full 30 minutes before the front yard. But we got in the 1/2 inch range so I am very happy. The lighting did delay Eric's night time routine by 45 minutes and with the power iffy for 30 minutes I almost did not cook dinner. But everything settled down and things went on as usual but 45 minutes delayed.

We the boy is asleep so I am going to take advantage and go to bed on the early side.
