Time to Laugh

Today I gave myself a very short chore list. My plans included typing up not one but 2 new patterns. This involved finishing the second one, which is on the verge last round right now. Going to the computer and typing them. Taking some pictures.  Seeing if a friend had time to read through the second pattern.  I also wanted to start a baby blanket, there must be something in the water, I have 2 to make so far this year.

What actually happened was that I got half way through my chores.   Then the sounds did not sound right at the other end of the house. I got there just before Eric created 3 more loads of laundry. So the rest of the day was spent dashing to the washing machine to put a finished load in the dryer and start the next load. The last load of the day hit the dryer at 11:45pm.  Did I mention how grateful I am to have a washer and dryer at home?

Because I was popping up and down no knitting was done until after 5:00pm, when I just had a little time while training a new aide. She was great. She was quick and smart.  I only had to show her things once. To bad she was just a fill in. She would be perfect for our Sunday night opening.

I was so tired that John made the sandwiches for dinner.  Thank you John. Right now I am waiting to see if Eric is going to go to sleep before the sun rises later this morning.  Wish me good luck on that one.

A Little Mishap

There are certain things in life that must be done methodically every time that they are done or things go wonky rather quickly. Take Eric's new lift for example. It is mounted to the ceiling with the lift being operated by a pneumatic air compressor which is operated by a switch. We ask everyone who uses it with Eric to make sure that it does not get tangled. Tangles always cause problems.  I noticed that this mornings aide did not put the lift back on the charger, but failed to notice how badly tangled the wires were left until it was too late.

Do to tangling in the wires the pneumatic motor became disengaged, is simpler terms it broke at a most inconvenient time. Yes half way down. This left Eric miffed to be stuck in mid air. My tall guy was out and about an hour away. I am to short to reach up and fix it. The bed was to far from the problem to safely fix the lift. It would have been a very embarrassing call to 911. I can not lift Eric by myself.  I finally found a step ladder so I could reach up and fix everything. The whole incident took less than 2 minutes, but to me it felt like hours. Eric's glares did not help much either, but I could not blame him, his ride broke midway through.

This will result in everyone who works with Eric to be retrained on the lift. I personally hate redundant training, but will do this because it is a safety issue.

By the time everything was fixed and I was calm enough to drive we had missed the movie that we wanted to go to across town and hurried to catch a later showing at another theater. By the way we went to see Zootopia. It is a must see movie for this summer.

By the way as long as we are talking about retraining, I would like to mention that a movie theaters the handicapped seating is for those who truly need to use them. For example people in wheelchairs and their companions, people who use walkers or canes and have other mobility issues. You just do not know how hard it is to move a wheelchair through those heavy doors to go to the other side. I think it would be much easier to move your able body self and kids a few seat and show some manners. I am off my soap box now.

10,000

Today was the first day since I had the cold from he double toothpicks that I made my goal of 10,000 steps. Yes I managed to walk 5 miles today.  It did leave me tired, but it is a good tired.

I also found time to do some training with  with Eric at his day program. Which meant that I got down on the floor to do some physical therapy training. I also answered all question about Eric.

Followed by  a shopping trip to finding all the supplies I needed to make the pinita's. It only took 3 stores. The funny thing is I found none of the supplies at the craft store. Go figure.  I even made it to the grocery store today.

My craft project for today was to start a multi day paper mâché project.  I am making 2 piñata's for a birthday party. One is going to be a fancy and the other will be on the plain side.  Here is the picture of the fancy one in progress. This is after the first layer of paper mâché.

Needless to say this has left me too tire to knit or spin tonight.

Overwelmed

This has been a very over whelming week for me so far. I did training Monday morning followed by a lot of errands. You guessed it Eric got sick again this week, but thanks to Lisa I only had one 29.5 hour day this week. Yes I know that it is technically more than one day. My feeling on the subject is that the day is not officially over until I go to sleep, so that's how I get such strange days. I am project hopping right now. I will do a few rows of knitting on one project then hop to another project or some spinning. Exhaustion will do that for me. So this will be a very short post tonight.

French Vanilla

Today went so smoothly that if it were an ice cream flavor it would have to be the rich creaminess of French Vanilla ice cream. The training went well. They liked the fact that Eric came with a cheat sheet on the basics of Eric. It did hit 108f in Tucson today. 3 degrees hotter than yesterday. This might be the reason why I am spending time thinking about ice cream. No I have not indulged yet, but just thinking about it is refreshing in an odd way. I have been hitting the ice tea and iced water with gusto though. Now if only tomorrow was Monday. It has been a very long and trying week so you can see why next week is looking good me right about now.

A First for Eric

Today was a new first for Eric. He made his way into adulthood, he started his day program. So I spent the day training and answering questions about Eric. I think the day went well and things will get better as time goes on. I mean how can you flirt or express your independence with your mother in the same room?

As the day progressed I was able to step back and watch the interactions in the room and liked what I saw. I find it amazing that people seem to forget I am there when I was knitting or spinning. I wonder if they thought I was not paying attention to them?  Of course things will have to be fine tuned for Eric and that will not happen over night.

Not much else got done today, but that is OK with me. I felt it was more important to get Eric off to a good start then to do chores.  Now to gather the energy to do the things that needed to be done while I was with Eric today.
